Creativity and design run in the family of Project Designer and Purchaser Karen Livaudais. Both of her grandfathers were in the architecture field, with specialties in drawing plans, specification writing, and even teaching. At AK Design Group, Karen uses her superpower — hyper-focused attention to detail — to decode and fine-tune every facet of her team’s design specifications when buying furniture, decorative lighting, window treatments, and other items for projects.
Before joining the AKDG team in 2013, Karen gained important professional experience that now directly applies to her current position. She worked for a multi-line manufacturer’s representative group to sell and service a wide variety of products for hospitality interiors. Rather fitting, if we do say so.
Karen enjoys the creative outlet her job provides - and she loves collaborating with her colleagues and clients to come up with fun, new design solutions. Don’t ask her to pick just one favorite project, though. From a new construction SpringHill Suites to a Holiday Inn Express renovation, she loves them all because each has unique characteristics while often creating (welcome) challenges that she has to design her way out of. Karen is inspired by and appreciates nature and classic design, but she likes to reinterpret it with modern materials—taking vintage items and making them work hard in a contemporary hotel design.
A graduate of the University of Memphis, Karen briefly lived in New York City before returning to her southern charm roots. A tight-knit family, Karen, her husband, stepson, and pet pup traded in busy city life for a quiet home life in the Tennessee countryside, where they have goats. Yes, goats! Karen loves living in the blissful rural area where she can gaze at the twinkling stars.
