For Junior Designer Caitlyn Fleming, interior design isn’t just about the pretty—it’s also about the important pieces that happen behind the scenes. Caitlyn happens to be a whiz on AutoCAD, a design and drafting software program that’s essential for the firm’s projects. She expertly uses the program to work within a floorplan drawing to plan everything from furniture placement and layout to wall finishes, paint, lighting, and more – all while keeping clients’ style and budget top-of-mind.
Caitlyn gets a lot of her design inspiration from photography and artwork, and she likes to pull colors and elements specific to the local area into her designs. Her very first project with AK Designs has been her favorite so far—she worked closely with fellow designer Lauren to create an intricate wood weave wall for the lobby of an upscale, new-build Hilton Garden Inn. Teamwork at its finest!
Caitlyn also loves to learn through the firm’s vendor presentations. During these routine in-office meetings, hospitality vendors showcase the latest and greatest in their product lines. As a visual learner, Caitlyn appreciates that she can actively touch and interact with the product, which gives her a better idea of what each product really is, its durability, how it’s constructed, and the materials used. Not only do these vendor presentations keep Caitlyn and the AK Design Group team on trend, it also helps them understand material price points so they can help clients stay on budget.
